The Story * Chapter Two
Years passed and the memory of the horrors faded from the minds of men. The Knights of Centuria, in the hopes of
distancing themselves further from the world around them, rebuilt their stronghold and named it Stillmire in memory
of the dead. Their hate of man twisted their hearts to the point where they took Ubers and began to breed them as
you or I would dogs. Their faith in this would be their demise. The three most powerful Ubers turned on their
masters and slayed them, ending the line of Knights forever. When word reached the mage's council about what had
happened they sent a circle of six to destroy the killers, but to their dismay they found a Deathmagic barrier had
been placed around the stronghold and they could not enter. Their task was not a complete failure because before
they left, they cast a strong spell that would warn others to stay away from this dreadful place.
The world as I knew it then is not the same as it is now. It seems like new spells are being discovered all the
time. It's strange to think that the potential for those were always there, but nobody thought to combine the
weaves of magic in such a way.... until now. I think of how barbaric our old ways must seem to you. I remember taking
the boat from Keldrin to Delkin many times as a child, but now.... portal magic has made boat travel a thing of the
past. They've even discovered different worlds using this magic. I haven't been there yet, but I hear tell of a
world covered in nothing but Ice. The inhabitants of that land have showed our brethren much about changing the weather using
magic. It's a very popular place to go and many enjoy it. I may visit there one day.
It saddens my heart to know that some of the apprentice mages have turned their backs on the light and dabble in
the dreaded Deathmagic arts. We still dont fully know the dangers associated with using that type of magic, but we
do know that eventually it hollows you out and you lose part or all of who you are. Two years ago Tlevin, the direct
decendant of Phen went to the holy well east of Keldrin and was never heard from again. some say that he drowned and
that his body is at the bottom of the well, but others say that he was power hungry and long exposure to Deathmagic
turned him into something completely different. Who can say? Not I.
This I know for certain. A strange wind blows across this world. We must prepare ourselves for the battles ahead.
Remain diligent in your efforts and strive for knowledge and power for we may need you in the years to come. The
foul things that roam the night have been confined to areas where they cannot become too powerful. We must hold them
within these prisons or else all is lost. Another war will surely break our world apart at the seams. It all rests in
your hands. |
